What Is Portrait Photography..
Portrait photography or portraiture in photography is a photograph of a person or group of people that captures the personality of the subject by using effective lighting, backdrops, and poses. A portrait picture might be artistic, or it might be clinical, as part of a medical study.

Richard Renaldi..
Renaldi was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1968 and grew up there. He moved to New York City in 1986. He lived in Los Angeles for two years, starting in 2003. He received a BFA in photography from NYC in 1990. Figure and Ground was made over seven years. Fall River Boys was made over nine years, beginning in 2000. Touching Strangers was made over seven years, beginning in 2007, and inspired by an earlier series of Renaldi's, Bus Travelers, "that looked at the intimate spaces strangers often share.Manhattan Sunday was made between 2010 and 2016. Renaldi established Charles Lane Press in 2008 to publish new projects by contemporary photographers. Richard Renaldi (born 1968) is an American portrait photographer. His four main books each contain portraits of people Renaldi met in public, and some landscapes, made over numerous years with an 8×10 large format view camera. Those books are: Figure and Ground (2006) – various people throughout the USA; Fall River Boys (2009) – young men (and some women) growing up in the post-industrial city of Fall River, Massachusetts; Touching Strangers (2014) – strangers posed by Renaldi physically touching in some way, made all over the USA; and Manhattan Sunday (2016) – LGBT people photographed between midnight and 10 am on Sundays mainly on the streets of Manhattan having left nightclubs. Touching Strangers had a solo exhibition at Aperture Foundation, and Manhattan Sunday, for which Renaldi received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2015, had a solo show at George Eastman Museum. I like his photos as not many photographers take pictures or use the LGBT people in shoots and it's very inspiring.

Richard Analysation..
This is my favorite photo of his as there aren’t a lot of famous photographers who take photos of men holding hands or being super close to each other, especially strong/ very masculine. The stereotype to see men like this is that they aren’t very strong. Richard has taken this picture in natural lighting but the main lighting is on the two men as the attention is drawn to them. The outside of the photo is dark and a bit blurry. He could've used a small depth of field and have the background blurry but he never as the hidden message in this photo is "A genuine jolt of pleasure." this message is like this photo is good and that seeing two strong, masculine, possible gay men is a normal and okay/good thing to see.
Annie Leibovitz..
Annie Leibovitz (born October 2, 1949) is an American portrait photographer. She photographed John Lennon on the day he was assassinated, and her work has been used on numerous album covers and magazines. She became the first woman to hold an exhibition at Washington's National Portrait Gallery in 1991. Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, on October 2, 1949, Anna-Lou Leibovitz is the third of six children of Marilyn Edith and Samuel Leibovitz. She is a third-generation American; her father's parents were Romanian Jews. Her mother was a modern dance instructor of Estonian-Jewish heritage. Her father was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force. The family moved frequently with her father's duty assignments, and she took her first pictures when he was stationed in the Philippines during the Vietnam War.[She took photographs around the military base and of nearby locals. Leibovitz's passion of art was born out of her mother's engagement with dance, music, and painting. At Northwood High School in Silver Spring, Maryland, she became interested in various artistic endeavors and began to write and play music. She attended the San Francisco Art Institute, where she studied painting with the intention of becoming an art teacher. At school, she had her first photography workshop and changed her major after to photography. She was inspired by the work of Robert Frank and Henri Cartier-Bresson, which her school taught about. For several years, she continued to develop her photography skills while holding various jobs, including a stint on a kibbutz in Amir, Israel, for several months in 1969. I like her photos as she can really capture someone and their aura. She uses the correct lighting and really knows what she is doing.
Her Photos..
Annie Analysation..
This is my favourite picture from Annie as the photo of the girl is quite dark and there isn’t much to it but her hair and eyes are bright and she has dirt on her face. You can see a tiny bit of her other eye but you can’t see the other half of her face. The background is a compositional rule of space as there is just free space beside the girl. This photo is kind of haunted as the girls face is dirty and her hair is like blowing in the wind, the vibe being moody. The lighting is completely focused on her.
Yousef Karsh..
Yousef Karsh (Born December 23, 1908 – July 13, 2002), was an Armenian-Canadian photographer known for his portraits of notable individuals. He has been described as one of the greatest portrait photographers of the 20th century. An Armenian Genocide survivor, Karsh migrated to Canada as a refugee. By the 1930s he established himself as a significant photographer in Ottawa, where he lived most of his adult life, though he traveled extensively for work. His iconic 1941 photograph of Winston Churchill was a breakthrough point in his 60-year career, through which he took numerous photos of known political leaders, men and women of arts and sciences. Over 20 photos by Karsh appeared on the cover of Life magazine, until he retired in 1992. I also like his photos because he knows how to capture someone and how to have the right shadows in the right places.

Yousef Analysation..
My favourite photo from Youseff is the picture of Audrey Hepburn. This is my favourite as you can’t see any emotions on her face and she’s just posing. She’s not wearing anything extravagant and you can see her light makeup. This photo is mainly focused on the woman the picture is so zoomed in and close up to focus on her features. The lightings are focused on her face and it creates shadows and highlights her face.
My Photos..
My Worst Photo..
This is my worst photo as it's blurry, out of focus and bad lighting. I could've improved this by focusing it and fixing the lighting. I could've also fixed the exposure.
My Best Photo..
I think this is my best photo as it's showing a true emotion and Charleigh looks like she is going through something and she's sad or thinking about something that's happened. I could've improved this by having it more focused and better lighting however it could be better.
Analysation..
To improve these photos i would make sure they're all in focus and not have them blurry i would also adjust the lighting and help it focus on them both.
Black And White..
My Worst Photo..
This is my worst photo as there is no pure meaning or emotion behind this photo. Plus this photo is not in focus and there isn't any good lighting in the image. To improve this I'd have Katie have an emotion, focus it on her and have better lexposure to create shadows.
My Best Photo..
This is my best photo as she is sad, almost embarrassed emotion as Katie is looking away from the camera and the flash brings out a shadow on the white wall behind her. To improve this photo I'd edit the shadow to be smiling and have Katie not.
Analysation..
I liked this shoot and there isn't much i would change. I would try to get Katie in different angles and movements.
Eyes Shoot..
My Worst..
This is my worst photo as Katie has no emotion and there's no message behind it. I also could've moved back a bit as I was too close.
Best..
This is my best photo as David created a shadow over Katie's face and her face and eyes are showing a lonely emotion or scared. The photo could've had better lighting.
Analysation..
I would improve this shoot by getting different angles of Katie and try getting different shadows on her.
Homework Ideas..
Honework..
Analysation..
I would improve this shoot by taking different photos and try getting the leaves in the picture better. I would also make sure they're not as blurry.
Erin Case
I think Erin's work is really good and it has a different style to it. A way for her work to be slightly better is if there weren't as much going on in it.
My Attempt
Analysation..
I would improve these shoots by trying to include other things in their faces that link with the picture. I would've used something darker, not a puppy or a cliff edge.
Macro Photography..
Textures..
Analysation..
I would improve these shoots by getting closer photos and have better lighting.

Christoffer Relander..
Christoffer Relander was born in Finland December 1986 and grew up in the countryside of Ekenäs. Relander's interest in art started at an early age, but it was not until he served the Finnish Marines between 2008-2009 that he found his passion with photography. Today working as a full-time photographer Relander has done commissions for national as well as international clients including Adobe, Nikon, Oxford University Press and the Finnish Forest Industry. Relander's works have been published in notable publications and websites globally such as The Guardian's Observer, LA Times, Oprah.com, Huffington Post, China Daily and VICE.
I like Christoffer's work as his second photo looks like the face is melting. His style is different and very beautiful.

Erin Case Continued..
I like the way its so out of place and weird. I get weirded out because it's a strange photo. This is a large depth of field because you can see everything. The focus is on the woman and the hands. The lighting is perfect because it isn't over or under exposed. The layout is with a big area to the right being plain and then the woman and the hands are in the middle.
To do an image like this i could take a picture of nature somewhere then take pictures of hands and someones face to then edit it into the middle of the image. I would have the lighting right so it isn't over or under exposed. The focus would be on the images in the middle.

Examples..
These hands are examples of how i would want them to look in the shoot on someones face. They need to be flat and covering the face.
